New Vehicle Registration Online (2026)
Congratulations on your new vehicle! Under the Motor Vehicles Act, every vehicle must be registered with the RTO before it can be driven on public roads. The New Vehicle Registration process is primarily handled by the dealer for new cars, but you can also apply yourself.
How to Register a New Vehicle (2026)
For most new private vehicles, the dealer acts as a facilitator. However, if you need to register it yourself (e.g., temporary registration to permanent), follow these steps via the Vahan Parivahan portal.
- Visit Vahan Parivahan: Go to the official Vahan 4.0 portal.
- Select 'New Vehicle Registration': Choose this option under "Online Services".
- Fill Application (Form 20): Enter the chassis number, engine number, and other vehicle details along with your personal information.
- Upload Documents: Upload scanned copies of the required documents (Sale Certificate, Insurance, Address Proof, etc.).
- Pay Taxes & Fees: Pay the Road Tax and Registration Fee online.
- Vehicle Inspection: Take the vehicle to the RTO for physical inspection. The Inspector will verify the chassis/engine numbers against the documents.
- Receive RC: Once approved, the Registration Certificate (RC) will be sent to your registered address by post.
